OU GROUP IN ISRAEL MEETS GOVERNOR JON CORZINE AT THE WALL
A group of JLIC Global Service-Learning Fellows
Meet New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine at the Kotel.
Students from Rutgers University and other campuses of the Orthodox Union’s Heshe and Harriet Seif Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus (JLIC) program, who were in Israel for the summer, met a fellow New Jersey resident at the Kotel, the Western Wall – Governor Jon Corzine.
The 27 travelers were participants in the JLIC Global Service-Learning Initiative Fellowship, a new summer program, and recipients of the first annual fellowship that offered them a chance to experience a summer of both learning and serving the Israeli community in internships at various social action agencies. Rabbi Yisroel and Shoshana Porat, the JLIC representatives at Rutgers, and Rabbi Yehuda and Michelle Sarna, their counterparts at NYU, served as the educators and guides for the students throughout their month-long stay in Israel.
The students who participated on the trip came from six of the 15 campuses at which JLIC is based: Rutgers University; Boston University; University of Maryland; New York University; UCLA; and the University of Illinois. The other JLIC campuses are: Yale; Princeton; Cornell; the University of Pennsylvania; Brandeis University; the University of Massachusetts at Amherst; Brooklyn College of the City University of New York; Johns Hopkins University; and the University of Florida.
